As part of the Plastic Diet core team, the Media Extraordinaire will lead the production of plastic-punching content on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and be in charge of managing our reputation in the press! You will be directing and motivating a team of aspiring writers, journalists and bloggers who harness the power of language, press and media to change attitudes around mindless plastic waste. In essence, you, the Media Extraordinaire, will be our very own social media star who will help us to scale up our impact by getting our campaigns the attention they deserve while tirelessly connecting new people to our community!


Responsibilities of this role include press releases, blogging, social media updates, as well as delegation and cooperating with the Campaign Team and Visual Arts Team to upscale and maximise the impacts of our campaigns. Joining our community in this role will provide you with a unique opportunity to gain leadership experience and develop your skills.

Maintaining and updating our social media accounts

  • Posting weekly content on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

  • Transmitting organisational values and messages through social media updates

  • Announcing official events, gatherings and other important information to our volunteers and online community

Leading the production of written content on our blog and in the press

  • Ensuring monthly or fortnightly release of feature-length content on our blog (terms are negotiable)

  • Writing press releases for major achievements and events in our organisation

  • Collaborating with the Visual Arts Team in the creative process of production
  • Researching and keeping up-to-date with solutions to plastic pollution

Managing our Media Team

  • Delegating tasks and/or assigning project managers

  • Working in collaboration with the Volunteer coordinator to delegate roles and recruit new people




Relevant journalist or social media experience/study

Preferred photography experience
